Material certificates, dimensional reports, and test data count as substantiation. A salesperson saying “trust me, it’s the same” does not.
Ask about warranty terms too. An aftermarket stator with a shorter warranty is not equivalent to an OEM part with a longer one, regardless of what the brochure says.
In 2023, I approved a trial batch of aftermarket stators that looked great on paper. Three of the five failed early. The unit-price savings disappeared into a $1,200 redo, plus two emergency freight charges. Now I ask for data before I sign, no matter how good the price looks.
