Stop Ordering NETZSCH NEMO Pump Parts by Model Number Alone

I don't believe most bad pump-parts orders happen because the person ordering is careless. They happen because someone reads a model number off a nameplate and assumes that is enough. If you work with NETZSCH NEMO pumps, that assumption gets expensive.

For about nine years, I've handled spare-parts orders for NEMO pumps in a processing plant. I've personally made five significant ordering mistakes and documented each one. Total wasted budget? How I Learned Why Model Numbers Are Not Enough

When I first started, I assumed a pump nameplate was the whole story. You find the model, open the catalog, send a part number. That's exactly what I did in my second year, and how I bought a stator that did not fit the pump it was ordered for.

The tag said NEMO. The model number matched our original purchase file. I trusted the file. What I didn't know was that the pump had been updated two years earlier, and the stator geometry in that old file no longer matched the installed pump end. When the old stator came out, the new one would not go in. We checked the part number, checked the rotor, checked the pump tag again. Everything looked right except the machine itself.

That mistake cost roughly $2,150 plus a week of downtime. The stator is still in a crate labeled "DO NOT STOCK." No outside vendor created that error. I created it by assuming a part list could replace an actual conversation about the pump.

An informed customer asks better questions. If support asks for the pump serial number or the previous repair record, the customer who hears that request without eye-rolling is the one who gets the right part the first time.

One moment changed how I saw this. I sent a spare-part request to the NETZSCH Technologies India support team. I had the part number from our old manual and I was ready to pay for express freight.   • Last rebuild or service history? Recorded, not guessed.
  • Pumped media, temperature, pressure, speed, solids content. Even for a simple gasket, context matters.
  • The previously installed part number. If it does not match the manual, the machine was changed.
  • The date of the last modification. If the pump is older than the parts document, assume the document is wrong.

That checklist has caught 47 potential errors in our team's orders over the past 18 months. Some were small. Some would have caused the same mess I made in year two.

The Bottom Line

I am not telling you that every spare part has to come from NETZSCH. Legit aftermarket parts can work well. But an aftermarket part still has to match an original specification before anyone can compare them. You cannot make an intelligent sourcing decision if you don't know the exact configuration inside the pump. That is the customer education point: it does not force you to buy OEM parts. It gives you enough information to decide.

I can only speak to the NEMO pumps in our plant and the support channels we have used, and this reflects our experience through early 2025. Pump revisions and part availability change, so verify current part numbers against an actual pump nameplate before ordering.

Looking back, I should have asked questions before I ordered that first wrong stator. I didn't, because no one had told me which questions mattered. People who know what they are doing usually aren't born with that knowledge. They get it when someone on the other side of the conversation takes the time to explain.

If you are sourcing NEMO pump parts, do not start with the part number. Start with the pump.
